BRASS DOORKNOBS
About the Project
If you have searched for antique style door hardware, you will know that they are pricey! I found some beautiful affordable options but I had multiple doors that needed new hardware and my budget wouldn’t allow it, so I did what any sensible DIYer would do and decided to make my own.
I purchased some knobs that I liked the shape of and with a little DIY magic, transformed them from yellow gold to a beautiful antique finish that made them look like they belonged in a historic home!
This DIY finish is incredibly easy to achieve and looks so beautiful in person. If you are on a budget, this is the perfect way to save some money by updating your existing hardware instead of buying new!

TUTORIAL
Step 1:
Grab your favorite spray primer and cover the exterior of your chosen door knobs until completely saturated.

Step 2:
Once primed, spray your hardware with a dark brown spray paint. This will give a warm undertone to our brass effect.

Step 4:
The final and most important step is to use a clean cloth to buff your knob to create a shiny metal like effect.
Tips & Tricks
Never hover in one place when spraying or you’re likely to get drips
Don’t use too much product. A sheer covering will look more realistic.
It’s best to work in stages to ensure you have enough time time to buff the wax before it dries completely.
I’d love to know what you thought of this project? Would you try updating your own door hardware this way?
Did you know that this technique can be used on so much more than door hardware? I’ve used this on closet rods, hooks, even statues to make them look like solid brass!
