fAUX WOOD DOOR
Learn how to transform any door to look like real wood using a simple faux woodgrain technique and gel stain. This beginner-friendly, budget-conscious DIY shows you step by step how to achieve a realistic wood finish that adds instant curb appeal and long-lasting style to your home
Real solid wood doors were never an option for me, they cost thousands of dollars, and I needed two! I wanted the warmth, depth, and character of real wood without the price tag, so I decided to experiment with gel stain and a faux woodgrain technique.
Honestly? It ended up being the perfect solution. The finish looks incredibly realistic and instantly upgraded my home’s curb appeal.
If this project feels intimidating, I promise it’s much easier than it looks. Gel stain is especially beginner-friendly because it has a long working time, which means you can slow down, wipe back mistakes, and learn the technique as you go. No rushing, no pressure.
I’ve had this faux wood door finished for almost two years now, and it has held up beautifully, it still looks just as good as the day I painted it. Proof that a budget-friendly DIY can be both durable and genuinely high-end looking.
